Property Rights in Georgia

November 16th, 2005 by Brendan Steinhauser

The blog, Eminent Domain Watch, has a good piece here from the Gwinnett Daily Post.

The timing wasn’t right during this year’s General Assembly session for limiting eminent domain in Georgia.

But that was before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June that the city of New London, Conn., was legally justified in boosting its tax base by condemning the homes of longtime residents to make way for luxury housing, shops, a hotel and marina.

Now, egged on by property-rights advocates, lawmakers in Georgia and other states are lining up to limit governments’ use of eminent domain to purposes that traditionally have been associated with the authority: roads, utility lines and public buildings.

We will be watching this situation closely. FreedomWorks Georgia should be geared up to support legislation that protects private property rights!

We are a non-profit organization to premote the property rights of citizens in Cherokee County GA. Our commissioners are proposing a new land use map that will deny us use of our property and allow others to trespass on our property legally. The new plan is also adding another layer of big government to control the re-zoning process which is already slow. The new plan will make it next to impossible to get property re-zoned.
