Mehlman recognizes a Need for Change

December 2nd, 2005 by Alexander Zozos

Party leadership is beginning to realize that voters’ desire elected officials who enact policy which aligns with the principles for which they were elected; this is the basis of a representative democracy. Dick Armey pointed out the current problem in his Wall Street Journal Op-ed, “Today, with Republicans controlling both the legislative and executive branches of the federal government, there is a widening credibility gap between their political rhetoric and their public policies.”

Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman was just quoted in today’s WSJ saying, “People don’t elect Republicans to run bloated bureaucracies.” With party leadership recognizing the alienation voters are feeling with the policy Congress has enacted it will be interesting to see what issues they address when they return from recess, as the 2006 election looms in the distant future, as the Armey Axiom goes, “When we act like us, we win. When we act like them, we
lose.”
