Energy Independence Thwarted
December 27th, 2005 by Brendan SteinhauserThe Wall St. Journal ran a great op-ed in today’s edition, pointing out that the Senate goofed by blocking drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
As the Journal pointed out, politicians clamor about solving U.S. dependency on foreign oil, yet they chose to continue this reliance by blocking Sen. Stevens’ attempt to include Arctic drilling in the Defense appropriations bill.
Once again, the environmentalists have won the battle over their prized direct mail marketing tool, the Arctic refuge. They will continue to raise money from their constituency to fight the “evil oil companies” and Republicans, while Americans pay the consequences of not increasing our domestic output of energy.
