2005 Year in Review

By FreedomWorks activist Joyce Krawiec

Always know that a few dedicated people can cause tremendous changes to take place. In fact, that is truly the only way dynamic change has ever happened, through the tireless efforts of a few dedicated people.

The activists in FreedomWorks North Carolina worked diligently in 2005 to promote our philosophy of lower taxes, less government and more freedom. Let’s look at some of the accomplishments of a few of our chapters and the impact of these County organizations.

Orange County – The activists in the Orange County FreedomWorks had a banner year. This group organized and stopped a school merger that has been in the making for a long time. A school tax was defeated in the election with the determination of our organization. Two of our FreedomWorks activists were elected as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Orange County School Board. Orange County is certainly benefiting from the hard work of our group.

Mitchell County – Our activists in Mitchell County forced a county tax rate cut for the first time in the history of the county. This is only 1 of five counties to cut the tax rate. Four out of five of the Mitchell County Board members are activists with FreedomWorks. This is exactly how we get things done.

Polk County – The county chapter here stopped an attempt at forced annexation in Columbus. Since this is going on all over our state, we all can learn from Polk County, how to activate, organize and motivate our citizens to take action to stop infringement of our property rights.

Yadkin County – FreedomWorks activists in Yadkin County were instrumental in cutting the county budget by a whopping 6%. Two of our activists were elected chairman and vice chairman of the county board. Way to go!

Alamance County – When a vacancy came open on the Board of County Commissioners, our activists went into high hear to make sure a conservative was appointed. One of our activists was named to fill that seat. We expect to see things starting to happen to promote our philosophies.

Rockingham County – Four activists from our FreedomWorks chapter were selected to serve on citizen advisory boards to the County Commission.

Forsyth County – Activists in Forsyth County impacted our local municipal elections. From small town mayors to council members, several conservatives were elected to office. Several of our activists were appointed to citizen advisory boards in the county.
