The Political Price of Pork
May 18th, 2006 by ArpanThe Wall Street Journal and New York Times are reporting a huge coup for limited-government Republicans in Pennsylvania. Establishment Republicans across the country that have slowly sold out the GOP in the name of power should take note, because they might be next.
15 incumbent RINOs (”Republicans in name only”) who favor of big government, were swept out of office in this week’s Bloody Tuesday primary elections. This, in spite of the fact the conservative opposition was outspent 8-1 by the incumbents. In one telling example, a 21 college student defeated a long-time incumbent (The student allegedly sent the incumbent a copy of “Economics for Dummies”).
The Wall Street Journal concludes:
It seems this is a message GOP politicians have to relearn over and over: When they run as Reagan Republicans they win; when they run as big government Democrats they lose.
That sounds awfully familiar to one of Dick Armey’s axioms:
When we act like us, we win. When we act like them, we lose.
If you live in a state where RINOs aren’t representing your commitment to lower taxes, less government, and more freedom, it’s never too late to get involved.
