Rally at State Capitol in Columbia, SC Saturday morning!!

May 19th, 2006 by Brendan Steinhauser

From the Governor’s office:

As you may know, state economists recently upped their estimates for the state’s tax revenues, meaning that $1 billion more in taxes will be sent to Columbia this year.

This is over $500 million more than Governor Sanford used when writing his budget - a budget that fully funded education, put 100 new troopers on the road, repaid the state’s past debts, and returned money to the taxpayer!

Governor Sanford has called on the General Assembly to cut taxes and return more money to hardworking South Carolinians.  Unfortunately, many in the legislature appear more willing to spend nearly every new dime rather than return the people’s money to their wallets.

But it isn’t too late to act - your legislative leaders are meeting to decide how these new dollars will be spent.  They need to hear from you — and on Saturday, May 20th at 10:00 a.m., Governor Sanford would like you to join him, legislative leaders, Party chairmen, Executive Committeemen, tax cut advocates and rank and file conservatives on the South steps of the Statehouse to make your voice heard.

We need to be loud and clear that this money belongs to us — not government — and we want our taxes cut!

Remember - this budget could be finished by Monday, so the time to act is now! If you can’t join the governor on Saturday, write or call your Representative or Senator and tell them you support a tax cut!
