White House Executive Order Protects Property Rights

The Bush Administration today issued an executive order that will strengthen federal government treatment of private property rights. A bit of good news during a week when we marked the first year anniversary of the disastrous Kelo decision.  It reads in part:

It is the policy of the United States to protect the rights of Americans to their private property, including by limiting the taking of private property by the Federal Government to situations in which the taking is for public use, with just compensation, and for the purpose of benefiting the general public and not merely for the purpose of advancing the economic interest of private parties to be given ownership or use of the property taken.

Great stuff!!

    The catch wth this exec order is that unfortunately it is strictly tied to FEDERAL takings.
    There are very few cases of that.
    The agregious takings have been local, state & county entities.
