Blogs talking about Social Security

June 25th, 2006 by Brendan Steinhauser

Ryan Walsh has a good post over at Reagan’s Children Blog on social security.

He writes, “Make no mistake, the American left, not only the right, has long acknowledged Social Security’s destined bankruptcy. Yet, because it fears that even the slightest hint of free-market reform threatens to unravel Social Security—that great apex of big-government liberalism—as they know it, it finds it must tread softly in carrying out a near-impossible task: to “protect” Social Security, the left must carefully (1) raise awareness of the program’s vulnerability among today’s contributors and tomorrow’s beneficiaries, i.e, young people, and (2) simultaneously squelch all support for the very type of reform which, in contrast to the ugly specters of future benefit cuts or payroll tax hikes, remains most popular among young workers, i.e., personal accounts.”
