Prevent the U.N. From Taxing Americans!

July 19th, 2006 by Brendan Steinhauser

The Director General of the Center for Global Economic Growth at FreedomWorks, Dr. Richard Rahn, has a great piece in The Washington Times about U.N. tyranny.

He writes, “Should the U.N. be able to tax you? Over the last several years, officials at the U.N. and other international organizations have been hatching schemes to directly tax the world’s people.”

Ron Paul’s anti-U.N. tax legislation passed the House already, and now the Senate is taking up a similar measure, the “Protection Against United Nations Taxation Act of 2006″ (S.3633).  It is sponsored by Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) and Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE). The bill already has 32 co-sponsors.

The bill would require the U.S. government to withold 20% of its funds from the U.N. if it tries to impose taxes on American citizens. The penalty would take effect if the U.N. or other world organizations developed, advocated, endorsed, promoted or publicized any proposal to tax U.S. citizens.

As Dr. Rahn notes, this is a modest bill, and we’d like to see it go further, but politics really is the art of the possible. Please contact your Senators and urge them to support S. 3633 to prevent the U.N from taxing Americans!
