New Poll Suggests GOP Bloodbath

In the 50 most competitive GOP House districts, only 29 percent of likely voters said they’d “definitely” or “probably” vote for the incumbent, according to a new poll commissioned by NPR.  The 109th Congress has engaged in precious little serious policymaking, and the public knows it.  Imagine if the majority had passed Social Security personal accounts, kept spending in check, and made the 2003 and 2001 tax cuts permanent.  The country would have a near-balanced budget and the GOP would have positive domestic accomplishments to campaign on.  Instead, the GOP has largely floundered (even though it enjoys a larger majority than the last Congress.)
