Senator Stevens obstructing government transparency
August 30th, 2006 by Brendan SteinhauserThe word from my fellow bloggers is that Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) is the one responsible for blocking a good bill by Senators Obama and Coburn that would bring accountability and transparency to government.
The bill would, according to Red State, “create an online, searchable database of federal earmarks. The database would list which member of Congress obtained the earmark, how much the earmark is for, what the purpose is for, which local contractors are involved, etc.â€ÂÂÂ
If this is true, Senator Stevens should be ashamed of himself for blocking this good piece of legislation that has bipartisan support. And if it is true that his staff lied about the bill, saying they were not aware of it, then that is especially offensive.
Every good conservative should contact Senator Stevens’ office and ask him to lift the hold on the bill. They should also contact Senator Bill Frist and ask him to bring the bill to the Senate floor for a vote. The bill is called the “Federal Funding, Accountability, & Transparency Act,†[S. 2590]  and is sponsored by Senators Obama and Coburn.
