NYTimes Article on “Shrinking Vacations” Doesn’t Work

Sunday, August 20th, 2006 by Chris Kinnan

The Left has long enjoyed pushing the idea that Americans are overworked, underpaid, and in need of vacation. The latest article of this type will no doubt be cited by liberals as proof of some problem in the economy requiring govt intervention. Ironically, the article cites two examples that don’t exactly support the headline. [...]

Nebraska SOS faces usual suspects

Friday, August 18th, 2006 by Brendan Steinhauser

The teachers’ unions and AARP are at it again, fighting for bigger government in Nebraska.
Grassroots leaders in Nebraska have gathered many more signatures than they need to place a constitutional amendment restricting state spending on the ballot in November.
One of the local organizers leading the charge is Mike Groene, whose website is www.SOSNebraska.com
The opposition [...]

Conservative takes on Liberal in Rhode Island

Thursday, August 17th, 2006 by Brendan Steinhauser

Opinion Journal has a good write-up on the Senate race in Rhode Island.
They write about the incumbent liberal Republican Lincoln Chafee,
“The Rhode Islander set the standard, using his crucial vote to help stymie an extension of the Bush tax cuts, death-tax repeal and budget reform–not to mention protest a partial-birth abortion ban and Supreme Court [...]

Nationalized Oil To Blame for High Gas Prices?

Friday, August 11th, 2006 by Paul Burks

The Economist argues in Really Big Oil that national oil companies controlling 90% of the world’s reserves are to blame for high prices.  It has an interesting suggestion to those who do not like oil for various reasons; thank the national companies for their inefficiencies and for restricting world supply.

Nebraska Senate candidate supports personal retirement accounts

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 by Brendan Steinhauser

Interesting coverage of the Nebraska Senate campaign here and here.
Pete Ricketts has been criticized by the Ben Nelson camp for supporting personal retirement accounts.
It is good to see candidates take a stand in favor of ownership and personal wealth creation, as opposed to “protecting” a social security system that is going bankrupt.
FreedomWorks members should know where [...]

Opponents of Stop Overspending Afraid of Voters

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 by Paul Burks

Many opponents of TABOR laws, like the Stop Overspending ballot initiative in Nebraska, claim that it will starve necessary government programs.  If these programs are necessary, it should be easy to convince voters that they are necessary as well.  However, a lawsuit to strike the Nebraska Stop Overspending initiative from the ballot seems like a [...]

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 by bethskinner

Doug Lamborn won a hard fought primary victory last night in Congressional District 5. Senator Lamborn worked tirelessly last fall to help battle against the biggest tax increase in Colorado’s history, walking many precincts right alongside volunteers. He also stood beside Dick Armey, FreedomWorks chairman, at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, in October 2005 [...]

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 by bethskinner

Matt Dunn, the only candidate in House District 38 who pledged to protect taxpayers, won his primary victory last night. FreedomWorks activists engaged in targeted lit drops in that district to let citizens know about Dunn’s policy positions. Dunn has also vowed to fight for true health care reform and to protect property rights.

Big Government Advocate Schwarz Goes Down in Michigan!

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 by Brendan Steinhauser

With the defeat of incumbent Joe Schwarz (MI-7), voters in Michigan sent a strong signal that advocates of big government and more spending are in for a big disappointment in this Congressional mid-term election. FreedomWorks engaged in a good deal of voter education surrounding this race as our activists in Michigan waged a grassroots [...]
