Bruce Bartlett is voting for Democrats
November 1st, 2006 by Brendan SteinhauserBartlett’s column appeared today in the Washington Times.
He says that gridlock is good for slowing the growth of government, therefore he is voting for Democrats. He points out that he does not support their policies, but that he does support holding Republicans accountable.
“this is one Republican who has never voted for a Democrat in his life who will do so this year for the first time.”
“I think the American people like divided government.”
“divided government often helps the passage of legislation with broad support that is opposed by special interests.”
“I am voting for change, congressional oversight and White House accountability. I am voting against Republican corruption and out-of-control spending. If that takes putting Democrats in charge of Congress, then so be it.”

I voted mostly Republican but I cannot disagree with much of this column. This is the end result of a loss of principle. One we cannot afford.
If 2008 is to be won by the Republicans, we must return to core values, speak plainly and over the heads of the MSM for if - and when - we win, it will be too close for comfort. Because after all, in 2008 there are many governorships, state legislatures, US Senate seats and all 435 Representatives AND the Presidency.
Why do I feel this way? I don’t trust the Democrats on national security. A blog in my county - A SVC Alumnus’ Blog - wrote a great post recently outlined the bad votes of Washington State democrats.
