Romney doesn’t support personal accounts

February 7th, 2007 by Brendan Steinhauser

The Wall Street Journal blog Washington Wire has the story.

Romney won’t propose changes in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid — the government entitlement programs that are growing at unsustainable rates — but instead will press for all sides to come to the bargaining table; Bush proposed a bipartisan entitlement commission in his 2006 State of the Union address, but never created it. Speaking in an early-primary state where his father once was a popular governor, Romney also is expected to tell his “Motown” audience that any increase in automotive fuel-efficiency standards should be part of a comprehensive energy policy. –Jackie Calmes
