Fighting taxes in Texas
March 7th, 2007 by Brendan SteinhauserI just spoke to the office of state representative Hubert Vo. He has authored HJR 49, which would prevent the taxation of everyday necessities like food, water and certain medicines. The bill would amend the constitution (this happens frequently in Texas) to prevent these items from being taxed by legislators. If the bill passes, it will go to the people of Texas for a vote on November 6, 2007.
This is a good bill that all Texans should support. You should find out who represents you and call their office in support of HJR 49. If you’d like more information about the bill, or want to get more involved in the campaign to support it, email me at bsteinhauser @ freedomworks.org

“Broaden the base, lower the rate”
That philosophy from the Gipper is the cornerstone of Supply Side Economics. There should be no sectors of the economy untaxed. Ideally, all sectors would be taxed at a lower rate.
Why should we support a bill that Constitutionally prohibits certain sectors from being taxed? Economically, this isn’t any different than saying farmers and pharmeceutical companies should be exempt from an income tax.
