RSC to announce American Taxpayer Bill of Rights
March 13th, 2007 by Brendan SteinhauserOn a conference call today, Republican Study Committee Members Marsha Blackburn, John Campbell and Jeb Hensarling announced that they will be outlining an American Taxpayer Bill of Rights on Wednesday at a press conference in Washington.
The congressmen told grassroots leaders and bloggers that they will outline four themes of fiscal conservatism, including stopping the raid on the social security trust fund, allowing the tax code to sunset in 2011, balancing the budget without tax increases and restraining the growth of the federal government by pegging it to economic growth or personal income. The RSC also wants to require a two-thirds majority in the Congress in order to raise taxes.
A big part of the American TABOR will include getting other Republicans and Democrats on board with these ideas, including the various presidential candidates.
These are the same ideas that Chairman Armey has been talking about for months. You can read his comments in previous opinion pieces in The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. It is good to see the conservative wing of one of the political parties taking Armey’s advice and trying to inject big ideas into the current political discourse.
FreedomWorks applauds these congressmen for their efforts, and will be supporting them by alerting our members and allies to these ideas. For more information about the American Taxpayer Bill of Rights please visit the RSC blog.
