Blue Dogs Like Their Pork
March 29th, 2007 by Brendan SteinhauserAmanda Carpenter over at Human Events has a good piece about the Blue Dog Democrats who claim to believe in fiscal responsibility voting for tons of pork in the “emergency spending” bill passed by the House of Representatives last week. The article is here.
Rep. Heath Schuler, who kindly met with 15 or so FreedomWorks activists last week, decided to vote for the pork and against the interests of his conservative district in North Carolina.
As Carpenter reported,
“Schuler had attacked Republicans for “irresponsible earmarks†and told voters that “the people of North Carolina deserve better.â€Â
Schuler said in a statement that he ultimately voted for the spending bill after a lot of “prayer†and talking to his constituents.
Perhaps Rep. Schuler and other Blue Dogs should hear from their constituents a little more. I know that FreedomWorks members in North Carolina will be more than happy to let him know how they feel about his vote for the pork. Schuler’s district office number in Asheville is 828-252-1651.
If the Blue Dogs want to stay in power, they’d better learn quickly that they cannot vote with the Pelosi Democrats and their far left agenda. Only by pursuing the policies of lower taxes, less government and more freedom can they survive the next election.
