Gas Price Panderers

May 25th, 2007 by Peter Deery

It is becoming a yearly tradition. Summer vacations cause an increase in driving and the gas supply can’t keep up with the demand, leading to higher gas prices. Then Congress gives in to their constituents complaining about gas prices and legislates price controls by enacting ineffectual price gouging legislation. The current bill, which recently passed the House, comes down hard on those who sell fuel at “unconscionably excessive” prices while doing little to solve our energy problems. It sounds like they are trying to legislate and regulate free markets or as USA Today puts it “criminalize free enterprise.”
