Immigration Bill Fails

June 8th, 2007 by Xander Zebrose

Last night the compromise Immigration bill failed to pass a senate cloture vote 45-50, it needed 60 votes to end debate and bring a final vote. The bill would have allowed the 12 million hard working undocumented workers currently in the country to stay legally with a 4-year, renewable ‘Z’ visa. They could also get permanent legal status if they paid $5,000 and went back to their home country to touch base. As bizarre as these requirements were, this was a good bill. Freedom works and we will all be much better off once we give these 12 million people the freedom to pursue a better future for themselves and their families.
