College Professor Challenges Gore to an ‘Inconvenient’ Bet

June 22nd, 2007 by Jessica Irwin

Scott Armstrong, a marketing professor from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, wants to challenge former Vice President Al Gore to a 10-year bet on how many degrees the global temperature will increase during that time. Both Armstrong and Gore would have to put $10,000 into the pool, with winner take all –$20,000 and accumulated interest for the charity of his choice.

Armstrong said the idea of the bet

arose out of research a colleague and he - both specialists in forecasting - had done on global-warming forecasts put out by Gore and organizations like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

A website has been started to log and chronicle the bet.

Armstrong sent Gore the challenge Tuesday and has not received a reply. Armstrong said he

“wouldn’t expect him to respond right away.”
