Tax Hike Mike - Huckabee

September 26th, 2007 by Brendan Steinhauser

The Club for Growth has just created a new website about the tax-and-spend ways of GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. The website is http://www.taxhikemike.org

The website details how Huckabee is posing as a fiscal conservative, when he actually has a bad record as governor in Arkansas. Here are some of the taxes Huckabee raised:

  • Higher sales taxes (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 11/07/96)
  • Higher gas taxes (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 06/29/99)
  • Higher grocery taxes (Associated Press, 09/11/02; Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 11/17/02)
  • Higher taxes on nursing home beds (Associated Press, 06/25/01)

Maybe they should draw atention to the first broad based tax cut he iniciated in over a century, A CENTURY. Also the tens of tax cuts he supported, and that he has given excellent explanaitions for tax hikes.

He was able to be a fiscal conservative in a Democratic environment. We need experiance like this with the trend in the this nation being Democrat leaning.

Mike hasn’t raised taxes unless you call what the people of Arkansas voted for. He did more for the state than any other!!! And had to work with a “Damorat”state! He can work well with others, and that has been seen! He knows about leadership, and how to listen to others. He knows about the middle Americans! He won’t ever forget where he came from. He will never get power hungry and leave us like our other man from Hope did. Mike will do us all a good job. The other man never did anything for us, or his wife! And she never will. If she or he was FOR Arkansas, why didn’t he build his library in Hope?? If she loved Arkansas so much, why isn’t she the Senator from Arkansas? Go MIKE!!

Thanks for your comments. I will have to disagree with you on Mike’s taxing and spending record.

The Cato Institute, Americans for Tax Reform and the Club for Growth have all commented on Huckabee’s bad record.

Cato gave him a ‘D’ on fiscal matters during his entire term as governor.

ATR points out that Huckabee is responsible for a 34% higher sales tax and a 103% cigarette tax.

I think Mike is a good guy, but a bad manager of tax dollars.

Well that screwed up any chance for him to win the nomination. Any party willing to raise taxes will send the economy into shambles. I just dont understand why we dont learn from the successes from the past. Starting with JFK to Reagan to George W. Bush, they seem to get it with supply side economics. Taxing more will end up being wasted.
