Fred Thompson raises $8 million

October 1st, 2007 by Brendan Steinhauser

Jonathan Martin reports that GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson has raised $8 million this quarter.

Word from the Thompson HQ this morning — where they’re still tearing up envelopes — is that he’ll raise over $8 million in the third quarter. Aware that such a figure from their first full quarter may be unfavorably compared to the performance of their rivals in the first quarter, Thompson aides are making it known that they will likely have more individual contributions than any of their competitors did out of the gates. John McCain led the field in that regard, raising cash from over 51,000 different people in the first three months of the year.

Based on the number of emails and phone calls I receive from FDT supporters in the blogosphere, I think he has the grassroots support to make a big impact on the race. The key for him will be South Carolina, where he needs to win to show he can beat Rudy. Thompson has a good shot at winning southern states like Tennessee, Georgia and Florida, but will have to fight hard in some of the western, more libertarian states that might give Rudy a pass on his social issues stances.

Fred Thompson has GOT to get on tv. He is the only candidate who has the ability to “get” to the American people, and the only way to do it is via the television screen !

I completely agree with Indie, Fred Thompson does need to get on the TV screen.

Fred Thompson will be on the CNBC debate Oct 9 with all the other GOP candidates. This will be an important test to get his platform out to the American people and will be watch very closely by every candidate from both parties

  4. Trey Says:

Fred Thompson also needs to do TV interviews, not just TV debates.
