Bush’s Veto Holds

As expected, Bush’s veto on S-CHIP held, despite a Democrat-led attempt to overturn it and some last minute attempts by the bill’s advocates to convince people that hey, it’s not so bad after all.  I’ve been somewhat hard on the GOP on the issue, but, at least now that we’re at this point, this deserves to be commended.  House Minority Whip Roy Blunt sent out a press release titled, “House sustains president’s veto, now let’s get to work on genuine solution.” I’m not sure I’ll be all that thrilled with whatever solution they end up choosing, but no doubt it will be better than what the Democrats tried to ram through here.
