Dick Durbin Doesn’t Sleep. He Spends.
December 19th, 2007 by Peter SudermanThis is great. Over at Red State, Rob Bluey points us to a question asked by Sen. Jim DeMint: Is it really possible to read a 3,417 page omnibus bill in a mere 46 hours and 8 minutes — all the time given to Senators before a vote?
Majority Whip Dick Durbin says, sure, why not?
For this Senator to suggest on the floor that we are sneaking this bill in, that people have not had a chance to see it, I would just say to the Senator from South Carolina: Welcome to the world of the Internet. This bill has been posted since 12:15 a.m. Monday morning on the Internet for your perusal.
And, according to DeMint’s calculations, it turns out that, whaddaya know? Durbin is right! You could read the bill in that amount of time … provided you read a page 1 and 1/4 page every minute the whole time and never stopped to eat or sleep.

Did anyone read the USA Patriot Act before it was passed and signed into law? No, and that law did way, way more harm than this one year federal budget is ever going to do. Where was the always irrelevant Sen. DeMint then? What are the staffs of these legislators doing in D.C.? Maybe they could, you know, help out n’ stuff…maybe help the aging Senator read a little…they could do it together even…kind of like storytime…
