My caucus night in Iowa: a diary
January 4th, 2008 by Matt HittleLast night, I showed up at East High School in Sioux City, Iowa for the Republican caucuses with Milton Friedman’s book “Free to Choose” under my arm. I was excited to be attending my second caucus.
We filed into the gymnasium with our blue paper ballots and heard a few words from representatives of the candidates. They were supposed to speak for two minutes, but each went on for at least four. The impatient Iowans we are, we began to applaud in the middle of their speech- “playing them off,” so-to-speak- like winners at the Oscars who ramble too long.
We then moved to different parts of the school, separated by precinct. There were about fifty people in my precinct. There was no precinct captain, so I volunteered. In the end, my precinct elected Huckabee by two votes over Romney.
After I counted the votes twice, we elected three people to join a County-wide group to help make phone calls and distribute signs when the national election rolls around. Being the good citizen that I am, I threw my hat into the ring.
The four candidates for the three seats made little speeches about why they’d be good for these positions, then asked the precinct if they had questions.
True to the evangelical nature of the midwest, they berated me with social issues. I tried talking about the free market and limited government, but they would have none of it. Needless to say, I lost. A few people stuck around and tried to argue with me, insisting the government should regulate heavily. I wonder why they didn’t attend the Democratic caucus!
The cap to my night was standing up to my knees in dirty snow, helping push an elderly woman out of a snow drift she had unwittingly driven into while trying to park.
I arrived home cold and wet, but satisfied. The Iowa caucuses may seem meaningless or over-hyped, but they’re the grassroots democracy that keeps the nation chugging.
To be sure, it was an interesting night, since Huck won the state. Let’s hope- for freedom’s sake- he doesn’t win in New Hampshire.

Free trade with no social responsibility is pre -1929 when America was brought to it knees by God almighty by the pure greed of the few in America who used this nation has it own personel nation; whom God brought war to our shores by two wars by those who tried to make America into a Sodom and Gomorrah who violated all the 10 commandments without remorse, who created their own god on Wall Street to slaughter the souls of then innocent on the alter Sataan for profit who lived by their own rules to absolve themselves from their crimes against humanity in spite of the rules of God that are written in the heavens where the stars dots the i’s and crosses the t’s. American has the kind of free trade leading to absolute corruption of it bankers because no one of honor is guarding the hen house which the demons of greed are laying waste to the National Treasury of the American people who have been transformed into sheep for slaughter to finance the military industrial complex by their elected officials who’s wages and benefits are the 30 pieces of silver of Judas, of being the proxies of death for the kings of the earth, who have no regard for Gods children, who have been created in His own image, who makes sure the curse of father to the son stays intact to keep all of God’s children out of the Garden of Eden, who have been denied God’s heavenly vision by the descendants of Cain, the servant of Sataan-the great deceiver. Free trade is a lie. Nothing exist. America is a nation of 300 million people with a government for 100 million people who’s federal agencies have been castrated by the wealthy for fear of going to prison for life. The wealthy want the children of the poor to fight and die for small change and the hope of future college; while all of the gutless of the children of Washington get jobs in government out of harms way has they run to Washington to get awarded the Navy Cross for the paper cuts they get for kissing the Senators ass’s for sucking all of this nations blessings;until, this nation slowly dies from the ungrateful descendants of the wealthy and the powerful who give nothing to this nation. America is like the dog who keeps eating his own vomit. America keeps reproducing the same incestuous people in power as if the only people who can run this nation are the father, son, and the grandson who inter breed among the elite to the demise of this nation. Democracy was destroyed when the Bush CIA put Bush into the White House. Democracy was left in a ditch somewhere between Texas an Washington in a shallow grave with its throat cut by the Supreme Court. Bush has committed a felony ever since he became President. A CIA officer can not be President unless they reveal their covert status.
