RSC Statement on Fiscal Stimulus
January 18th, 2008 by Peter SudermanThe Republican Study Committee, comprised of more than 100 conservative Representatives, has released a statement on the fiscal stimulus package. The key bit:
Conservatives know that it is never a bad time to let families keep more of their own money. We are, in fact, the ones who have been leading that charge in Congress. We agree that now is an especially good time for family tax relief given rising energy, food, and tuition costs. However, temporary consumer tax rebates should not be confused with economic stimulus. I remain concerned that in the rush to act, an opportunity to put together legislation that will actually grow and stimulate the economy is being missed.
“The last time our country faced recession, rebates were helpful to consumers but did little to turnaround the economy. History shows us that the best way to provide an economic turnaround, preserve jobs and spur economic growth is to ensure that job creators face a lower tax and regulatory burden. Part of our economic slow down is due to the massive tax increases threatened by Democrats and the resulting uncertainty.
…“House conservatives believe that economic stimulus legislation should actually include economic stimulus.”

I ask again…were these same GOP operatives opposed *back then* to the silly Bush tax rebates that we all got back in 2001? I doubt it…
Yea, the economy is tanking now just because of some tough talk on taxes on the rich from the Dems…it, of course, must have obsolutely nothing to do with the extremely poor fiscal management of our nation at the federal level for much of the last 7+ years (under mostly total Republican rule). “Supply side” is a dead, old concept.

This is just their push to make the tax cuts for the wealthiest americans permanent. Although I’d nominally agree that “House conservatives believe that economic stimulus legislation should actually include economic stimulus,” this isn’t really what they’re doing. Again, it’s all about permanent tax cuts for the wealthy.
I wonder, what the hell is FreedomWorks doing quoting verbatim from the RSC without any comment whatsoever? Why is FreedomWorks simply pushing the RSC position without any analysis?
Seriously, Peter, do you just not care that you’re behaving transparently like a Republican shill, or has that been the point all along?

Because they are hacks for the GOP, period. It’s been the point all along BTW…they are not alone either.
