Virginia Moving to Repeal “Abusive Driver” Fees

January 23rd, 2008 by Brendan Steinhauser

The Virginia General Assembly is moving fast to repeal the largely unpopular “abusive driver fees” that it imposed last year. Here is a report from the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The House passed 95-2 without debate a bill that would repeal the unpopular bad-driver fees. The fees were adopted last year as part of a $3 billion transportation package.

Designed to raise $65 million a year, they would impose penalties of up to $3,000 on particularly bad drivers.

The General Assembly is scrambling to undo them.

As someone who is against abusive government, I say “good riddance” to these ridiculous laws.
