What I find odd is that we are debating if a 'strong' or 'weak' dollar is more beneficial to the American economy- without criticizing for a second the fact that the value of our currency can be manipulated at all.

It is the 'floating' nature of our currency's value that makes it's manipulation possible. If a nation's currency is not tied to a commodity (gold, silver, etc.) then it's position in the world is inherently unstable. Before contemplating what strategy ought to be used in manipulating our dollar, we ought to remind ourselves that a sound unmanipulated currency is a cornerstone to individual freedom and national soveriegnity.

The best way to improve American exports is to remove the embedded income and payroll taxes passed on in the price of everything. This is estimated to be from 20 to 30% of all costs. We can do this with legislation H.R. 25, the FairTax Act. 23% of the price could be removed making U.S. products more competitive, just one of the many economic advantages of switching from the income/payroll tax to the FairTax.
See www.fairtax.org for research papers.
