On Wednesday afternoon, Senator Wayne Allard (R-CO) introduced an amendment to the Senate Budget Bill. The amendment, which he called “The Obama Spendorama” went down to defeat, with Allard himself voting against it, but it brought an important point to the forefront of the budget debate.

In a disappointing turn, the Senate voted last night against the DeMint amendment for a moratorium on earmarks for the 2009 fiscal year.  The good guys voting for the ban:

These remarks by the Clinton and Obama campaigns are certainly good news on the earmark front, but, unfortunately, the overall outlook for reform still isn’t good.

The Senate is voting this week on a one-year earmark moratorium, and some so-called conservatives are trotting out questionable arguments in defense of earmarks.  Senator Coburn gave an address last night that answered these claims and his staff is circulating these arguments.
