Condi Rice on Colombia Free Trade Deal
April 7th, 2008 by Brendan SteinhauserSecretary of State and potential VP candidate Condoleeza Rice has an op-ed in today’s Wall Street Journal in support of free trade with Colombia.
It is not every day that our government, with one bold stroke, could strengthen the competitiveness of U.S. workers; support a democratic ally on the cusp of achieving lasting national success; weaken those who would sow instability and autocracy in our hemisphere; and send an unequivocal signal to the entire world that the United States is a confident, capable global leader that acts not only in its own interest, but in the interest of its friends.
Dr. Rice points out that the agreement would mean an annual increase of $1.1 billion in U.S. exports to Colombia. She notes that we currently face tariffs on our goods of up to 35%, while 90% of Colombian goods coming here do so duty-free. The Colombia free trade agreement is a good thing for both peoples, and it should therefore pass.

Let’s contact our respective lawmakers on Capitol Hill and urge them to vote “YES” for the Columbia Free Trade Agreement!

Who says that the miserable failure that is Condoleeza Rice is a potential GOP VP candidate??

Mister Guy,
Failure based on what? You can disagree with her but she is extremely talented and I would support her for President and therefore for VP any day. She is heads of over heals over Hillary or Obama and McCain needs her. She would really be awesome.
You don’t have to vote for McCain/Rice but many will and they will win. It seems that you would not vote for McCain/anything so go back to your liberal blogs and slam Hillary to get Obama nominated.

She’s a failure based on her record:
-she failed to plan properly against a potential Al-Qaeda attack against the USA in the summer of 2001…the August 6, 2001 PDB “Bin Laden to Strike in US” anyone?
-Rice was an outspoken proponent of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. After Iraq (truthfully) delivered its declaration on WMD to the UN on December 8, 2002, Rice wrote an editorial for The New York Times entitled “Why We Know Iraq Is Lying”…she was the big liar…remember this lil gem? “The problem here is that there will always be some uncertainty about how quickly he can acquire nuclear weapons. But we don’t want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.”
-she was the first National Security Advisor to campaign for an incumbent President…not a distinction of excellance IMO.
-she garnered the most negative Senatorial votes cast against any nomination for Secretary of State since 1825.
-she has continually asserted that the President holds far more war powers than the U.S. Constitution actually grants.
-she’s done little to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
BTW, I’m a Hillary supporter…

McCain is the Aaron Burr of modern American politics.
