Where Do Ag Subsidies Go?

May 15th, 2008 by Peter Suderman

A lot of places, sure, but one of them is Manhattan. Here’s a map, courtesy of Matt Yglesias:

Ag subsidies in Manhattan

You know, last I checked, there weren’t a lot of farms on the Upper East Side. Awful lot of money going there, though.

It’s curious though that when you go to this interactive site & actually click on the red dots in NYC that none of the farms appear to actually be located in NYC…they are in places that you would think have farms…hmmmmm…

Also, it appears that a HUGE part of the country is getting subsidies.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m opposed to subsidies, but I think the above map has been put out there to intentionally mislead people to think that New York City dwellers are getting AG subsidies for “farms” in NYC, which isn’t actually the case.
