FreedomWorks Crashes MoveOn.org protest in Maryland
July 10th, 2008 by Brendan SteinhauserJohn over at “This Ain’t Hell” has a good post and pictures up about yesterday’s operation to crash MoveOn.org’s “Campaign for an Oil-Free President.”
FreedomWorks outnumbered the leftists and held up signs that called for the U.S. to expand our domestic energy supplies. The MoveOn crowd seemed perplexed and couldn’t figure out how we were able to crash their rally in front of Exxon stations in Bethesda. Seeing as how the event was listed on the MoveOn website, we were shocked that they were confused. Enjoy the photos!

Excellent stratergy by FreedomWorks. Everytime the Moveon.org crowd is confronted by common sense Americans, they are stunned. And that is a good thing!

Not that I’m a lover of MoveOn’s oft ridiculous tactics…but you people are a bunch of f*cking morons.
Do you really honestly think that “drilling American” will lead to a miraculous drop in oil prices? Really?! Is Exxon-Mobile not an American corporation? Do you really think they’re excited by the prospect of “drilling American” and knocking those record profits down? Honestly? Do you really think ridiculous, recession inducing oil prices are easily fixed by propping up some new oil derricks up in Alaska and North Dakota and off the shore of Florida? Really?! That simple, eh? Maybe YOU should be President. Your black/white, simplistic view of global economics is right in line with the lame duck idiot holding the post currently.

fhillis, it is obvious that you enjoy the fact that we import 70% of our oil from over seas! lets do more, how about 100%! ya, that will be great for oil prices, American jobs, etc….
OH and that “Lame duck idiot” seams to be having his way with congress! not too bad for a “Lame duck idiot”!

The idea that we could EVER drill enough oil in this country to satify the current demand here is ludicrous! We have never, repeat NEVER, been able to do that, and Peak Oil production occurred in this country in the early 1970s…wake up!

I am NOT in favor of importing oil, NOR am I in favor of drilling for oil in the US. The amount of oil we have in the US will NOT bail us out of the hole we have drilled for ourselves with the dependency on ANY kind of oil, be it foreign or domestic! We faced this problem in the 70’s and SHOULD have looked into viable alternatives then. If we had, we wouldn’t be right back in the same old leaky boat we are in now. Even if we DID drill and get more oil from our own supply, where is it going to be refined? That is 1 of the major issues we have right now. Not only do we not have enough refineries in the US to supply ourselves with enough oil to meet our needs, but those few we DO have are out of date and have been held together with spit and bailing wire for decades. The only REAL answer is to find alternative RENEWABLE energy sources. Sorry, but we don’t have any more dinosaures roaming around these days to convieniently die and decay beneath the earth to make this oil everyone wants to pull out of the ground. Nor do we have a couple of thousand years to wait till they finish cooking. And I wouldn’t count too much on the oil we can get from Alaska and Exxon-Mobile. BP Pipelines (Alaska) Inc, ARCO Transportation Alaska Inc., Exxon Pipeline Company, Mobil Alaska Pipeline Company, Amerada Hess Corporation, Phillips Alaska Pipeline Corporation, and Unocal Pipeline Company has had the pipeline in Alaska for the last 40 years and the pipeline is in such poor condition that a 22 month investigation was enacted at the behest of the chairman of the House Interior Committee. The outcome of this investigation will probably nix the new oil drilling everyone wants done in Alaska. The consensis is that if they can’t take care of what they have and haven’t taken care of it for the last 30 years, why should we give them more land to ruin? My thoughts exactly!

Quick note: the reason for drilling oil isn’t because it will reduce prices or end imprts; it will barely affect the former and certainly not the latter. It’s simply that we have oil, and it makes sense to use it. When I go out and work, it isn’t because I expect to lower the market price of labor, or end trade with other nations… it’s simply that I have a useful resource (labor) and putting it to use is indeed productive.
I’m sure that over the longer run the world will shift away from oil as an energy source, but it makes sense to do so in a phased, rational matter, not by going “oil free” and creating economic collapse & poverty. More drilling is in fact a reasonable part of moving away from oil. As oil prices increase and we shift to other energy sources, additional drilling softens the shock.
