Gas Price Protest Showdown
August 1st, 2008 by NSwiftCheck it - Politico has the story - Republicans are refusing to leave town for recess until domestic exploration is at least brought up to vote. In a dark, hot room, reps say they won’t take a break while American families and the economy is suffering.
If your legislator stayed, call and thank them for sticking up for you. If they didn’t, ask them why they aren’t.

Everyone else sees the parallels to Enron’s manipulation of the energy market, right?
You guys should actually be watching the speculative energy markets right now and start reading SEC filings. You know, the sort of things people do at actual think tanks.
You’re backing a transfer of assets to energy companies that will, in the short term, will do absolutely nothing in terms of concrete economics to lower the price of gasoline. Whatever price relief that will be realized will supposedly come from some “psychological” source.
I mean seriously, what grown up believes that some “psychology” is going to cause gas prices to drop, when the far more likely explanation for everything we’re seeing—the suspicious timing of astronomical gas prices, record corporate profits, the admitted inability of energy companies to actually recover any oil from new leases, no changes in the world supply or demand of oil that would otherwise explain the astronomical increase in fuel prices, the refusal of oil companies to give up valuable assets (oil leases) they are otherwise not using, etc.—is simple market manipulation?
Don’t think this is conspiracy land. Read the SEC filings. And remember that Enron already did exactly this in the electricity market.

Thank you for this concise synopsis. The disgusting thing is the our politicians who are elected to represent us, that is be our agents and not their own, are twiddling their thumbs counting election campaign money instead of setting things straight.
Those in the “know” have seen this coming from a long way off. Prices have be escalating for how long now? And yet only now does it raise the interest of our constitutional guardians? Please. What a pathetic lot they all are.
I’m sure Al Gore can come up with an action plan.
Sincerely,
Edwin Sibley

I feel that this country is already losing it’s freedom.
I am a smoker and look what you people are doing to me..If I was on drugs and alcohol that would not be a sin..Why won’t you tax beer as much as you do my cigarettes. And make all drugs legal let the fools buy and pay taxes on them..L.H.
